The Oz, St. Paul, Minnesota, 1979
Downtown St. Paul’s Oz nightclub opened on Valentine’s Day 1979, making it something of a latecomer to the disco craze. It was located in the basement of the old Lowry Hotel building at Fourth and Wabasha. Little known fact: this is where producer Steven Greenberg and sound engineer David Rivkin tested the mix for the smash single, “Funkytown,” by Lipps Inc.
