The “Notorious” Faust, St. Paul, Late 1970s (by Stephen Cysewski) Notorious indeed. The city of St. Paul spent the better parts of two decades trying to shut down this infamous porn house at the corner of University and Dale. It finally succeeded in 1989. The Faust hadn’t always been a smut den, of course. It opened in 1912, and for many years ranked as one of the Twin Cities’ finest neighborhood movie theaters.
